FOOD FOR OTHER WILDLIFE
It's easy to forget that there is a lot of wildlife in-and-around our gardens, parks and open spaces which are equally as interesting to watch and encourage by leaving food out for them. Feeding birds in our gardens is a national pastime enjoyed by a many, and with good reason. However, there are many other animals such as our hedgehogs, foxes, badgers and waterfowl etc which can give just as much pleasure especially if you can gain their trust. Simply observing your chosen location over time and looking for small signs of activity can give you an idea of what is visiting and what food to offer - but patience is required so be prepared. Parks are a great place to see a wide range of waterfowl, and kids love feeding the ducks and swans. Hedgehogs are a family favourite and their antics can be very funny if observed from a distance, particularly if there is more than one dinning. Spend some time looking and observing where you live and you'd be surprised at what comes and goes, and don't forget to watch at different times of the day/night - you'll be sure to see something interesting. A good pair of binoculars are invaluable and help to maintain discreet distance.
